Butterfly Valves
Why Butterfly Valves?
When it comes to large diameter pipe sizes, butterfly valves make an excellent choice. These valves are economical considering their size, and offer excellent sealing power at suitable pressures. Offering both pneumatically actuated and manually controlled valves, we can find you the best unit for your application.
Advantages of Butterfly Valves
- Easy installation and low maintenance
- Easy opening action with a good sealing at lower pressures
- Does not require much space in the overall line
- Available in actuated models
- Due to the low weight and simple designs, these are often economical at larger diameter pipe sizes, and many custom diameters are possible
Disadvantages of Butterfly Valves
- The edge of the butterfly disc will face the flow, and cause mild turbulance
- The disc within the butterfly valve means that there is not a “full port”
Types of Butterfly Valves Available
- Wafer
- Installed between two flanges and easily removable for repair
- Lug
- Installed between two flanges, for higher pressures than wafer flanges
- Flanged
- In this type, the flange can be used as a one-sided connection with another flange, and is similar to the lug-style
- Butt-Weld Ends
- For high pressure use, these weld directly to a pipeline
- Different Disc Hinge Types
- Standard (Zero Offset)
- Center mounted hinge
- Double Offset
- Slightly offset hinge to allow for a greater “open area”
- Triple Offset
- This is offset in both the X and Y directions, which allows for the greatest “open area” of a butterfly valve
- Standard (Zero Offset)
